It has been almost a full week since we last posted on the blog. Sorry for the break, but travels have been going well and we are having fun. After Bali, we took a quick respite in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for four days before heading to Vietnam.
Overall, KL reminds us of a cheaper, busier, dirtier version of Singapore and to remain within our budget, this gave ML another chance to experience an 'ostel. Similar to Singapore, the entire city revolves around malls, due to the constant tropical rain they experience. We learned this first hand since it rained for two straight days, during which we spent our entire time inside malls shopping and eating.
Since we surely bored you to death with our Singapore shopping and eating experiences we will update you on our uniquely KL experiences including the Petronas Towers, the largest "outdoor canopy" Bird Park in the world and Meredith's adventures in eating. We also visited the highly informative and beautiful Islamic Museum, however no photographic evidence exists.
OK, first our visit to the Petronas towers. Finished in 2004, these engineering marvels were the largest buildings in the world till they were eclipsed in 2008 by Dubai and Shanghai. However, the "double decker" bridge that connects the two towers still remains the tallest in the world (please note the "double decker" part, as a taller single story bridge was built but they had to recognize something as the worlds tallest so they are sticking with the "double decker" bridge).
During our brief 15 minutes on the worlds tallest "double decker" bridge we were "highly" amused by the very funny poses stuck by some of our fellow tourists. Below is our homage to their greatest hits.
Seriously, we almost died laughing at some of these poses. Here is a perfect example, check out the little girl on the left. "Sweetie, quick lean back, lift up your right leg and hold in place with your left arm, now, say 'fish sauce!!!"
Phew! Now here is our serious photo with a skyline shots for those of you in real estate and others who pretend to care.
Since we only had one nice day in KL, after the Petronas towers we headed directly to the KL Bird Park, which apparently is the largest "outdoor canopy" bird park in the world (again, does anyone sense a theme?). It was a good time and we really enjoyed feeding ourselves and birds.
Finally, during our time in Bali, Meredith experienced severe allergic reactions after eating. Originally, we wrote this off as a result of the unique local foods grown in Bali, especially those presented during our cooking class, but alas the allergies followed us to KL. After some crack investigative work (Sherlock Holmes would have been proud) AB used isolated food testing (eg shrimp and peanuts) todetermine that ML is officially allergic to MSG found in sweet soy sauce, which is used on many delicious dishes including on the guy below.
AB side note: originally ML thought it was alcohol, which literally brought her to the verge of tears. What can I say, a girl after my own heart!

Ok - Where to begin....
ReplyDelete1. Are you both aware that the Petronas towers were originally built strictly for the set of the movie Entrapment? Yes ENTRAPMENT...the cinematic masterpiece detailing the chronicles of two mastermind thieves turned lovers, Katherine Zeta Jones and Sean Connery. What is up with that broad and old dudes? Did daddy not hug her enough?
I digress.....you should've posed on the skybridge holding a copy of the DVD....I'm just saying....missed opportunity.
2. Meredith - I will forever refer to you as Martin Luther because every time I see ML, my mind goes back to my roots as a civil rights activist. I indeed DID had a Dream...that one day all mounds of rice would have a bit of saffron infused.
3. AB - The picture of you smiling with your chin on your fist makes me feel like you should be on some sort of sexual predators list. But then I remembered....the rules of Megan's Law don't apply in KL - Creep away my friend
4. I miss you both and wish I could be there to annoy you in person. Don't think these blogs are being written in vain, Persian people around the world are tracking your chronicles.
5. I have now mentioned "Persian" in more than one blog post. This may cause you to be placed on some sort of no-fly list. Please prepare to be "Randomly" searched.
Keep livin the dream!
