Singapore Sling

First, thank you for all the well wishes we received, we will be thinking of all of you as well

Second,  we survived our 24 hour trip around the world after flying a grand total of 10,000 miles in one direction. Safely arriving in Singapore at 6:00am we cleared customs after a brief inspection of our baggage (BTW, when a country that canes people and also still has firing squads wants to inspect your bags, be afraid.), then checked-in and decided to hit the streets, before the jet lag set in.

Our first stop was to explore our neighborhood in Singapore, Chinatown, which coincidentally is the area where AB lives in DC and participates in the two Singapore past times- eating and shopping (both of which we are uniquely suited for).

Our first stop was the famous Maxwell Hawkers Market.  Here, they have open air stalls where vendors sell their home cooked meals at extremely cheap prices.  Seeing as we had just arrived, we wanted to dive right in and explore the local cuisine.  The advice we received was "get in the longest line," hoping the locals would not lead us astray.  The longest line belonged to the Porriage shop and ML stood in line and at the behest of a local ordered number 3 (granted number 3 was in Chinese, so we didn't know what was coming out).

Anyway, out came the following, which leads us to our first of what will probably be many lessons learned from this trip, don't eat raw fish and Chinese porrige with raw egg while throwing back Tiger beers at 8:30am the morning you arrive in Asia. Nothing bad happened, but probably not our strongest move.

After "breakfast" we retired to our room and slept for about 15 hours straight.  Also, I would like to point out that this is ML's first time experience a Hostel.  Given the expense of this trip, we had to pair down the accommodation budget and in an effort to make it sound more luxurious and ease her transition we refer to it as the "Ostel" (the H is slient) to make it sound more French.

Overall, we are really enjoying exploring the city and it has a great waterfront and one of the great parts about Singapore is that it's ethnically 75% Chinese, therefore the entire city is decked out ready for the Chinese New Year- we are entering the year of the Rabbit.

Also, on our second night we spent some time at the Clark Quay at a great new development that houses lots of nightlife for the entire area.

Finally, for those of you in Real Estate who are following this blog, please pay attention.  The following building is called the Marian Bay Sands Resort and there is a cruise ship sitting on top of it that turns into a huge nightclub with infinity pool.  That is cool!

  1. In the event of a flood, you know all Persians in Singapore would be safe, cuz let's be honest....there's a 99.9% chance that they'd be in Cruise Ship Night Club.

P.S. If you want to go there, let me know....I'll get you on a list. Talk to Ali at the door and tell him you're a friend of mine.
